Work your way into power (and try to keep it) as Balthild, Radegund, or Irene of Athens. The power is yours for the taking, as long as you don't die in childbirth!

All quotations from "The Life of Lady Balthild, Queen of the Franks" in Late Merovingian France: History and Hagiography 640-720, "The Life of the Holy Radegund by Venantius Fortunatus" in Sainted Women of the Dark Ages, and "Women at the Court of Charlemagne: A Case of Monstrous Regiment?" by Janet L. Nelson in Medieval Queenship.
Simply fabulous.
